Angel Di Maria reveals he still follows Real Madrid and his former team-mates

Argentina forward Angel Di Maria has spoken about his glorious four-year spell at Real Madrid, working with top players and coaches, and how he still follows the club to this day. 

Di Maria, who was one of the best wingers in the world at the time, played for Real Madrid between 2010 and 2014, winning six trophies including one La Liga title, two Copa del Rey titles, one Champions League title, one UEFA Super Cup and one Supercopa de Espana. The 36-year-old forward is now set to play in the 2024 Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia on Sunday. 

The Argentine forward has recalled fond memories of his time at Real Madrid and revealed he still keeps tabs on his old club, particularly some of his former team-mates.

‘I still follow Real Madrid with my former team-mates Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal, who are still there,’ Di Maria said.

‘When I arrived at Real Madrid, there were so many incredible stars and I ended up playing with Benzema, Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo. I formed a central position with Modric and Xabi Alonso.’

Di Maria then spoke about the many trainers ยูฟ่าเบท he has worked with in the Spanish capital and how his role has changed over the years.

‘I enjoyed working with José Mourinho at Real Madrid. When Ancelotti arrived. I had never played in a midfield three and he created a place for me in his team. Even though he had great players.’

‘And I ended up winning the Champions League playing in this position.’

The Argentine forward also spoke about Karim Benzema: ‘Benzema is a unique player. It’s like you don’t see him, but suddenly he receives the ball, takes two or three players off and makes the decisive pass or scores. He deserves the Ballon d’Or.’

When asked about Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid. French star striker Di Maria replied: ‘Mbappe has extraordinary speed, which can make the difference at any time.’

‘Even though it looks like the game is locked. He sees space and starts running, and if you give him a good pass he can make decisions. For me, it’s clear he’ll end up with the Ballon d’Or.’
